In support of the Weimar Classic Literature Foundation, Montblanc is dedicating its “Writers’ Edition” series to the “Tribute to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe” (limited edition). The precious lacquer on the cap and barrel, and the engraving on the barrel ring, echo the frame of the copper plate illustration from an early edition of “Werther.” A key design detail recalls Goethe’s home in Weimar. The blue hue and pattern of the precious lacquer reflect the color and texture of the wallpaper in the writer’s room. Signature gold and platinum details are present, as is a charming pattern engraved along the top edge of the cap. The gently curved cap, reminiscent of a historic apothecary glass jar, pays homage to Goethe’s achievements as a scientist and collector. The leaf-shaped clip pays tribute to his research into morphology. The overall design of the limited edition, particularly the barrel and nib, draws inspiration from the historic writing instrument with which Goethe captured all his knowledge, ideas, and seemingly boundless poetic imagination.
